Our main objective in going to Iceland was to see the Aurora Borealis. We went in September of 2019 with a tour group sponsored by Sky & Telescope magazine. Knowing that this was not an active sunspot cycle, we didn’t have high expectations for seeing great aurora, but hoped for some. As it turned out there was a coronal mass ejection, the polarity of which was attracted to the north/south polarity of Earth, and we had three nights of spectacular aurora.
This is a time-lapse video made from photos Evert took on one of our nights viewing auroras.
